Pulitzer Prize Winners: AP Gets Public Service Prize For Story About Slave Labor In Fishing Industry : The Two-Way : NPR
Another concern to add to the list for seafood.
DietID_TeamDietitians All the more reason why we need more labor transparency in our food system. One solution is to purchase from local fisherman. Or get some Barramundi from @inahalfshell's new company. Or try a CSF -...
mirasingh I wish there were more ways to know if my seafood was fished my slave labor ☹ seems like if you are at a restaurant or market that doesn't say anything about the fish, we should assume the worst?
Ricky @Mirasingh My fear is that even if something reassuring is said, it's probably not a sure thing. It's always kind of alarming when they do blind tests and find out that a significant fraction of...
xkcd: "F*** Grapefruit"
Pardon the profanity. Also, mango is conspicuously absent.
I can't currently see any hens, and I don't think it works on a phone, but caveats aside, here's a live feed (pun?) of JS West chickens...

Jayson Lusk on Food, Technology, and Unnaturally Delicious | EconTalk
An interesting episode of one of my favorite podcasts. Includes an interesting discussion of what "cage-free" means and what a happy chicken may or may not be. Aside from agreeing or disagreeing wi...
DietID_TeamDietitians @Udi and I were talking about this! You should also listen to his episode on the brian Lehrer show. I was listening while running and almost tripped several times because I was I infuriated!
Ricky @Rachna haha yeah I know the feeling. He's a pretty strong libertarian but I respect the fact that he digs pretty deep into the analysis even if I don't agree with all of the conclusions.
DietID_TeamDietitians Yep I actually talked to some DC food policy people about this book and none of them had heard of it. I think there is now rebuttal brewing!
Food Policy Action | Tell Congress: Reject electronic GMO labeling & demand mandatory, clear, on-package labels
Proposed solution for labeling GMO food: QR codes? I mean no matter your feelings about GMO food, QR codes as a solution for anything, ever... Sorry. I'm biasing the discussion. Would you scan a QR...
sugardetoxme I have used a QR code once. So I'm with you. I'm curious what other folks on the farming, journalism and policy front think would be great solutions @SaraGassman @olivettefarm @Emmatellsfoodstories...
olivettefarm I've never used a QR code and I doubt most people would for their food. I think clear on package labeling is the very best option, but that will be a huge fight. In the mean time I think educating...
annefood So smartphone = no access to the information. People should not need fancy technology to be able to know what they're eating. And I guarantee a busy mother with a job and three kids does not have...
Missed out on this meal and only got pictures.
But I could eat nothing but tomato, mozzarella and basil for the rest of my life and I'm willing to say at the moment that I'd be perfectly happy.
Is decaffeinated coffee safe to drink? | Go Ask Alice!
7yr goaskalice.columbia.edu Brooklyn Roasting Company
Was trying to figure out if it was worthwhile to alter my daily routine. My conclusion after reading a couple resources: it's probably fine but maybe not really necessary anyway.
sugardetoxme Or you can follow my lead and never touch the stuff ;)
Ricky @sugardetoxme point taken. I go for the atmosphere. I'd drink hot water if they'd sell it to me...
Second encounter with Halo Halo... It's not as sweet as expected. Frozen water, beans, that purple ice cream that I can never remember what's in it...

Udi https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo-halo Had to look it up. Interesting.
