"Don't cryβit's only dinner prep!"

Gwendolyn That makes so much sense! They say the most potent onions actually have more cancer-fighting properties, so I'm glad to know of a solution for the tearful chop!
-
DietID_TeamDietitians Stellar #kitchentip! I also heard if you leave the faucet running while chopping onions, your eyes won't tear. This may be an old wive's tale, but it seems to work for me. Anyone have other tips...
-
jodavis @rachna I love that one. I've tried chewing gum but I still cry! Would love to know others.
Love hard boiled eggs, but have a hard time taking the shell off. Any good tricks to share with me?
-
sugardetoxme Don't use fresh ones (unfortunately) and shock with cold water right after boiling.
-
sugardetoxme Also putting eggs in a closed Tupperware and shaking vigorously to shatter the shell works
-
lauren I was told salt will do the trick!
How to Cook with Pineapple Peels and Cores

After composting so much pineapple the other week, this seems like a great idea! #kitchentips
-
Georegulus Awesome
-
Ricky Oh wow. Definitely going to try this. And could have used this two days ago. At the very least shouldn't have eaten an entire pineapple in one sitting.
-
lauren Oh I definitely would not have been able to... It was something a friend brought over as her dinner (?) but I'll pass the message along
Make things easier by wiping your measuring cup with oil before measuring sticky peanut butter or honey.

DietID_TeamDietitians Oh that is smart!
Fresh cilantro & avocado are two of my kitchen staples. What are some of yours?
-
akhilg2002 My wife is trying to get us to grow plants at home, so now our Basil plant is a source of extra seasoning on half of our home cooking!

DietID_TeamDietitians Ginger!! I put it in literally everything from soups, to tea, to fish. I don't have an ice cream maker but if I did, I'd probably make ginger ice cream too ;)
-
marynfulton2 Mmm two of my favorites. What would we do without spices and herbs?! They make life better π
Need help opening that pesky jar? Put a rubber band around the lid for added grip.

DietID_TeamDietitians Yes! Works every time

annefood A new discovery for me! Brilliant!
Need some vegetable inspiration? Dress cooked veggies in a salsa for an exciting side dish.
I made this quick salsa out of chopped olives, capers, lemon zest, red pepper flakes, parsley and olive oil, and used it to make some blanched romanesco much more exciting. Have asparagus? Make a s...
Use the tip of a spoon to peel your ginger.
Easier than a knife, and with less waste. #kitchentips

DietID_TeamDietitians Never knew this

serveMEnow Been doing this for years. Perfect place to share. ππ

annefood It's so easy @Rachna ! Way better than a knife or peeler.
Avocado kept fresh
I recently found an easy way to store half / part of an avocado from turning brown .
Simply cover it in plastic wrap ( in a nicely sealed air tight manner ) and place in the fridge.

DietID_TeamDietitians Yes! Also storing it with the pit and in lemon juice also works! #kitchentips
-
Yfalkson Pretty sure I heard the pit part is actually a myth. I think Kenji Lopez from The Foodlab tested it
-
DietID_TeamDietitians Really?! Oof I'll give it a try sans the lemon juice. I always use both and it seems to work, but a true scientist would say only test one variable at a time :)
Are your eggs still fresh? Put them in a bowl of water to find out. If they sink, they're good. If they float, toss 'em.
As eggs age they lose moisture and take on air. #kitchentips
