"As nutrition researcher Marion Nestle puts it: "Many — if not most — studies demonstrating that breakfast eaters are healthier and manage weight better than non-breakfast eaters were sponsored by Kellogg or other breakfast cereal companies whose businesses depend on people believing that breakfast means ready-to-eat cereal."

I have friends who don't need to eat until 11a. I Have to eat within 1 hour of waking or I start to feel faint! But I watch the sugar.

I was just about to share this!! I've been saying this all along. You can't get a decent breakfast in the US that isn't packed with sweets unless you get an omelette. Where as in Europe or Asia, the focus is on whole grains, fruits, proteins. And as for the breakfast is good or not, I'm sure the studies are probably guided by industry, but I know for myself, if I don't eat breakfast, I eat poorly the rest of the day.

@MargaretG @Rachna I couldn't agree more. I personally have to eat breakfast, but this morning's granola bar didn't even come close to satiating me...and it had 22 grams of sugar. Sigh.

I used to make egg muffins - basically a baby frittata that I can grab on the go. Could also try making a legume-based "bar"

I've found roasted veggies, especially sweet potatoes and carrots to be good substitutes for the sugary breakfast options. Throw in some plain, sugar-free yogurt and it keeps me full until lunch.

@LezEngel sweet potatoes and yogurt/cinnamon is one of my favorite breakfasts! I've never tried carrots, but it sounds good :)

Since I usually workout in the morning, I have a pre-workout snack and then breakfast after. The only age group that i think should eat breakfast consistently are children and teenagers. This idea that breakfast is artificially sweet is not good for them or the rest of us.

I've seen a lot of "healthy" people advocating certain diet/workout programs, and when they post photos of their groceries/meal "prep", it's FULL of processed crap like sugary yogurt and granola. I just want people to be more aware of how easy it is to start with the raw, natural ingredients and make their own food just as easily. Sigh. Rant over.
