munchiemummy 8yr I think, based on the verbiage of the article, that this may have been written in/about the UK, in which case, I think a massive problem is the rising rent for high street shops. There should be some sort of tax break or govt scheme (a rent cap?), perhaps, to subsidise the cost of storefront rental for local grocers and local producers? Surely this could help to save the high street?

garv 8yr @munchiemummy though a large part ,it's not just rents that kill. The advantage larger chains have is massive & actually controls the way we buy. Neighbourhood stores need lesser logistic support & fresh produce supports that , it's us buyers who need to make the shift.

munchiemummy 8yr @garv absolutely. We're all guilty of it at one time or another. "We should support local" and then for price or convenience we shop at a big retailer. The only way to change it is to make sacrifices on our part
