Although I haven't done the Whole30, I avoided grains for three days and saw some interesting results but I'll still bake cookies.

It's interesting what she said about it being sustainable only if you never care to be social or eat food outside of your own kitchen again. The social aspect of food is huge! I have a bunch of food allergies and they can definitely get in the way of social things. I would imagine eating in a restaurant to be challenging on the Whole 30, and when going to someone's house as a dinner guest. And I agree with her that eating a healthy diet in general sets your body up for success when you do on occasion eat the things that might otherwise aggravate your system.

Yes! I've had friends try whole30 and it goes out the window when we eat out. But I've also found that most restaurants are accommodating for the most part, so we as patrons shouldn't be afraid to ask

Agreed about asking- certainly never hurts.

Three of my friends tried Whole30 and stuck with it all the way through! They all said they saw good results. Two of them lost weight (that was a goal). I've been curious about it ever since, esp as I've been experiencing a lot of GI issues lately. But ruling out yogurt and legumes seems unnecessarily rough, since that can starve gut microflora. Maybe the main lesson here is to cut down on refined carbs and grains and eat more veg (since you'll need something to replace the calories from grain). Which is just sensical; you don't need a diet for that!

I'm glad the point is made about how your body absorbs nutrients, like vitamin D. Just drinking water with extra vitamins doesn't help you as much ingesting it with a full meal.
