40% of food waste comes from our homes. Here is a guide as to how long after the expiration date you can use it. When in doubt, use your nose. How do you rescue food at your home?

DietID_TeamDietitians this is awesome!! great #nofoodwaste tips! my big tip for food waste is to use the food that goes bad quickly before food that lasted longer- like greens before potatoes
-
Athina @Rachna I am a fan of vegetable hierarchy.
-
Athina Another #nofoodwaste tip is to chop up wilting vegetables and freeze them to use later in broths. For fruits, I juice them and put them in ice cube trays to use in cocktails.
Kale stems are just as delicious as the leaves! Sauté or steam them. #nofoodwaste

"“Greening up breakfast with kale stems. The stems are full of deliciousness just like the leaves and have a nice crunch after sautéing in coconut oil.…”"

pr1ncerah i like to make pesto out of stems/greens of all types - collards, kale, carrottops, etc etc...perfect sauce for anything and stays good for infinity (almost)

sugardetoxme Perfect
Eat your radish greens!
Small radishes like this one tend to have nice, tender greens that taste very similar to the radish themselves. Use them to add a little spice to your greens mix. #nofoodwaste #FoodRevolution
-
sugardetoxme I love baby radishes and turnips. Eat the whole thing!! BTW, I wanted to let you know that those lacewings work like a charm indoors! No aphids!
-
JenniferEmilson Oh yes- I roast them just like kale or Brussels sprouts chips!!
-
olivettefarm @JenniferEmilson yes! So good.

Another great selection of #nofoodwaste #kitchentips!! "Think that wilty veg in your crisper is destined for the garbage? Think again."

Riki How about just adding it to a vegetable soup? Would it work?
Beet fusilli from @sfoglini with wild caught Alaskan salmon + lots of #leftover veggies made a solidly flavorful #nofoodwaste dinner
Greens were wilted, but a quick sauté with garlic brought them back to life. Made the tomato sauce with some pretty mushy tomatoes from the farmers market. Simply delicious!
Egg Shells
Atlanta, GA
Egg shells are an excellent source of calcium. Sprinkle crushed shells around the base of pepper or tomato plants for an extra nutrient boost! #NoFoodWaste
-
JoanneG Such a cool tip. I'll definitely try this.
-
FarmerDave I saw this last week and tried it, but I just used one egg shell. How many shells to one tomato plant?
