Fruit during sugar detox
2yr
Is there a limit on how much fruit you can/should eat during the no sugar challenge? I know it specifically targets added sugars.
  • annefood @ShortAndStrong you are correct- the No Added Sugar Challenge only deals with added sugars. Whole fruit contains fiber that helps your body deal with the sugar load, plus it's not processed and...

I’m a big morning coffee drinker. I use 2 tsp of International Delight coffee creamer and a tbsp of whipped cream. Do I have to ditch this?

  • cgsegelette Ouch! That’s going to be hard but yep😃
  • ElanaG What do I replace with?
  • cgsegelette Check out bullet coffee on line or maybe vanilla almond milk?

Is Simply Lite Low Carb Dark Chocolate Sugar-Free 50% Cacao okay for this challenge? Is it healthy or best to just skip it?
1yr
  • DietID_TeamDietitians I would suggest skipping it because one of its main ingredients is Maltitol, a sugar alcohol or sweetener. Though it is not as sweet as sugar, it’s still an artificial sweetener, which you should...
  • AlexB Okay cool! Thank you. I just usually have one square of super dark chocolate.
  • annefood It's best to just skip it. Sugar alternatives tend to cause gastrointestinal issues when eaten in excess. I eat 100% cacao chips with dried fruit for a little dessert sometimes. No added sugar or...

It says 3 grams of sugar, but I don’t see sugar in the ingredients unless it’s disguised as something else?? Can I eat this trader joe muesli?
  • annefood Hey! The sugar is coming from the raisins, pear juice concentrate, and dried apples. Current nutrition labels show total sugar, which is a combination of any intrinsic sugars (from fruit, grains,...

Salt craving
1yr
I’ve been craving salt lately. Is this related to not having added sugar? Is anyone else craving salt?? 🤷🏻‍♀️
  • annefood I do not believe that there is a nutritional correlation, but it could be that you’re reaching for salty snacks since sweet ones are off the menu. Or perhaps the heat?
  • shmoozii I think you’re right. It’s a little weird is all.
  • garv Not weird at all . Salt does provide satiation.
I’m having a barbecue tonight, what are some no sugar options? And is honey allowed?
1yr
  • DietID_TeamDietitians Sounds fun! So honey isn’t allowed but you can replace with dates which are naturally sweet. Also opt for a ketchup with no added sugar if your recipe calls for ketchup or stick with tomato paste....
Challenges

Why can't we do more than one challenge at a time? We should be able to do a walking or exercise challenge at the same time. Where do we log the amount of water we drink, and fruits and vegetables...
  • DietID_TeamDietitians Hi there! Great question! We designed the healthy eating challenges so you can focus on one good habit at a time. Studies show that if you focus on multiple habits at the same time, you're not as...

  • sugardetoxme Such a good question!!!! I wish the books I've read turned into films, but Food Chains really sticks out in my mind
  • GooseBarry Agree on Food Chains. I know a lot of people in my community saw FedUp with their kids. I think that also had an impact because it was so widely distributed.
